My Mom Has Become the Obama Care “Unit”

IMG_2456 My beloved Mom
The first golden day of autumn has become the cold, barren winter of my Mom’s life.
A week ago I was planning to take Mom on a flight to Romania to see her siblings one last time. As I attempted to renew her passport, I remember wondering if the bureaucratic wheels will turn fast enough in sixty days. Would she still be able to travel then? How prophetic those words have become! Now she is locked inside a body that can no longer move. One moment she was vibrant and mobile, and the next moment her life was turned upside down. Is Health Care a Fundamental Human Right or a Service?

How many Americans believe that health care is a fundamental human right? How many Americans believe that it is just a service that must be paid for just like any other service? Good doctors and nurses who train a long time and invest a lot of money in their education expect to be paid well for their expertise and unique skills.

Respectable hospitals cannot operate on the basis of a “fundamental human right,” invented by “progressives,” somebody must pay for health care. Life-saving medical equipment and drugs are expensive.

Cyprus and Venezuela, Castro Care

Cyprus, a tiny island of less than one million people, is a small scale study in “big banking out of control,” “insane spending like there is no tomorrow,” coupled with “socialism runs out of other people’s money.” While researching the bailin and bailout of early summer, I found disturbing accounts of their socialized health care.

Toll-Free Call to Enroll in Obamacare SATIRE

Since the Obamacare exchange phone number has crashed once or twice last week and the website is experiencing tiny code “glitches” that have momentarily crippled your ability to enroll in this administration’s signature legislation, Bud S. suggests to have fun with the toll-free call if you are lucky enough to get through. He also recommends blocking the call (star 67) although phone companies have sure ways of finding out who you are, where you live, and where you were standing when you made the call.

The Baby Boomers and the not so Affordable Care Act

Why is it that we needed the Affordable Care Act? Was it because everybody was told inaccurately that Americans were dying in the streets untreated? If you ask Europeans and people from other continents that is exactly the perception they have about the United States. They do not know that any American can walk sick into an emergency room and he/she will be treated immediately. They don’t have to wait weeks and months to have a doctor’s appointment, tests, and procedures before they are actually treated as is the case in all socialized medicine countries.

Elder Abuse under Obama Care

Jane* went to bed one night last week, thanking God for her many blessings. She woke up next morning screaming, an entirely different person. Hallucinating, alternating between an imaginary world that only she could see and hear and lucidity, her family took her to the local hospital. She was admitted immediately and routine blood tests and an MRI were ordered.

Because Jane is 74 years old and a “unit” under Obama Care, her utility to society must be low in the complicated formula the bureaucrats have devised to kill as many inconvenient elderly as possible.

ObamaCare’s Personal Health Assessment

My 81 year old mom received a letter from her doctor, four days before the Affordable Care Act took effect. It was a two page questionnaire titled Personal Health Assessment (PHA) from the Accountable Care Organization (ACO) that her doctor chose to voluntarily participate in, thus enrolling all his patients onto this LLC (Limited Liability Company), a mixture of partnership and corporation. How was the group formed and why?

Obamacare, This Won’t Hurt a Bit

Thousands of articles have been written and commentaries made since the Affordable Care Act nobody can afford had passed. In spite of the vociferous demands to defund it coming from the majority of the American people who work for a living instead of voting more welfare for themselves, the best health care in the world will gradually disappear, replaced by a radical form of socialized medicine that most Americans are not prepared to understand or accept.

Defund Obamacare? Not Happening

While Americans demand vociferously the defunding of Obamacare in hopes of getting rid of the most destructive and freedom-robbing piece of legislation passed in modern times, Congressmen pretend to make valiant efforts to do so via various proposals that only low information and extremely naïve voters can believe to be true. Their efforts are akin to a handful of people standing on the tracks of an oncoming speeding train, waving their hands in hopes that the engineer will see them in time and be able to stop thousands of tons of momentum at the last minute. Even Heritage President, Jim DeMint, called for an end to these ‘pretend votes’ and ‘gimmicks’ that have now been postponed until next week, supposedly as the result of concerned Americans’ calls. It is just another way of buying time until the bill comes fully into effect.
